Business names mean so much to the sucess of the business. A short, catchy name that also tells you what they sell is the best combinations. So when Jamie of Battys Bath contacted me, it was time to start doing interviews. Where she came up with the name was a must as a first question.

Going on Jamie’s Etsy store, I saw that it was only 6 months old, yet she has had a lot of sales for such a short period.  Read her answers to these questions below.

If you are a buyer, a site that is sucessful and has good reviews is a site you can trust and feel safe to buy from.

  1. Where did you come up with the name “Battysbath”?
1. The first business I started was “She’s Batty Designs”. I work on it part-time now. When I started a bath & body business, “Batty’s Bath” naturally came to me as I’m known online as “Batty” now. “She’s Batty Designs” originally came from a combination of two things. The first was my love for halloween. I treat halloween as a lifestyle rather than a holiday so naturally, I wanted to work something spooky or halloween-ish into the name. Secondly, my brother-in-law calls me the “crazy aunt” because he thinks anyone who is an artsy free spirit is crazy, so the name was a bit of a poke at that.

  1. The solid perfume is a good idea. Are you using essential oils or cosmetic grade fragrance oils?

2. For the first several solid perfumes I’ve released they have been made with cosmetic grade fragrance oil. Fragrance oils used in my products are made out of synthetic aroma chemicals that have been tested for safety, carcinogenicity, allergens and skin irritancy by the Research Institute for Fragrance Materials. I’ve been dabbling with the idea of releasing a few solid perfumes made with essential oils as well.

  1. You have not been on Etsy very long, so what do you credit your many sales to?

3. I credit my sales to a lot of hard work! To elaborate, I knew what to work on and how because of all the experience I got building up my first etsy shop, shesbattydesigns.etsy.com – I was able to gage better what may work and what may not. That gave me a lot of experience with the etsy community, online marketing, networking, time management, and advertising. When I started Batty’s Bath I put together a complete business plan, and a marketing/advertising plan before I officially started selling in mid Feb. This helped give me focus and direction.

What Can Be Done To Improve in 2010

These adorable soaps should get even the most reluctant child to take a bath.  Dawn has some wonderful soaps for all, on her Haileys DragonFly Garden site. It is nice to feature soaps for children with all natural ingredients.

dirtyduck - HaileyDragonfly Garden

Kids love the smell of dirt. Why else would they get so dirty? The Dirty Duck smells like dirt, but has the goodness of Shea Butter for their skin.

dragons - Haileydragonfly Garden

Your Dragons can be scented whatever flavor your kids like. Cotton Candy, Sugar Plum Fairy, baby Powder, Dirt.

jasmine dreams - Hailey Dragonfly Garden Jasmine Dream is a favorite scent of mine. And this bar of soap has a beautiful, exotic design.

Everyone! Today is Dawn’s birthday. Happy Birthday, hope it is a good one.

I have copied this with hope that all of you will donate to this worthy endeavor that Haileys Dragonfly Garden has undertaken.

Thanks to everyone’s support and belief in our products, we feel we are now in a position to help others more.

We have decided to help out the soldiers overseas, as many do not get care packages or mail.

We are now involved with two different programs and we are asking for your help too.

Any Soldier and Soldiers Angels.

Our goal is to be able to send out two care packages a month but we can not do this without your help. A card will be included with everyone’s name on it who contributed that week. (If you only want your first name on card, please write me a note in the comments section)

Please, add a donation to your order.Every dollar counts.

Or you can just Donate on our Soldier page without making an order.

Thank you for your generosity and support.

Oily Complexion Angelic Soaps

If we’re to improve as soap makers, each of us needs to catch a glimpse of our art at its best.

Look through what you created in 2009 and pick out the best one. If you have an Etsy store you have the ability to see how many views each of your soaps received. Views do not mean sales. If your views did not, then what was wrong? Check your picture. Was it out of focus, background distracting, color bad, etc.

What about your description copy? Try to look at it in the third person. Would you buy that soap? Name. Is it catchy or ordinary? Saying “Shea Butter and Rose” is the description and should not be the name. If you are not good at picking out catchy names, ask a friend who is or research other soap makers. Do not copy, but look for inspiration to create your own.

Something else I have noticed. Read other peoples “about me” page. So many are exactly the same. The curious want to know where you live, are you married, children? Then they NEED you to sell them on what your soaps will do for them. They really do not care that you started making soaps for yourself and family and then turned it into a business!

January is the time for planning for the year. If you made your plans last January then your valentine soaps will be featured on your site now.

I noticed many are having end of year sales. Be different have a January sale. Make it worth while to the shopper. The big stores have made it impossible to just give 10% or even 20% off. Even if your sales are below your cost, you will be getting old inventory out, gaining new customers, and keeping the old.

My first few months with Soap n Stuff Daily has been great. I thank all of you for making it a success. Readership is growing each day and I certainly hope it is helping you to promote your site. After all that is the objective of Soap n Stuff Daily.

May this year be great for you.

Barb

This business name is intriguing. Lost River Rags got the name from the little town of Lost River, W. Va. where the business was born.  This Etsy business began in Dec 07.

Rice Flower and Shea Soap is enriched with Shea Butter and Dead Sea Clays. Poured in a “cupcake” style mold, it is an easy to hold and use bar.

Lilac Hummingbird Goats Milk Soap is as pretty as its name. Its scent is that of freshly bloomed lilacs.

You can’t beat a good sale and Lost River Rags is having an end of the year SALE until Sun. Jan 3. Everything has been reduced!

Candy Pink Heart Soapy Chica

This one is called “Candy Pink Heart” and is Made with Shea Butter, Avocado Butter, and Morrocan Rhassoul clay.

I use the most enticing fragrance for this bar, a warm spicy Oriental scent with lemon and tangerine, leading to a spiced heart of clove, cinnamon, ripe plum and tuberose resting on a base of rich incense, patchouli, soft moss, amber, caramelised sugar and vanilla. This is a wonderfully heady fragrance perfect for Summer.
